KUALA LUMPUR – Newly-minted Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud has claimed that the state assembly seats held by representatives from coalitions other than Perikatan Nasional (PN) are going against “perjuangan Islam” (struggle for Islam).
During a talk where he thanked voters for the support given to PN during the recently-concluded state elections, Nassuruddin, who is also the Meranti assemblyman, lamented the coalition’s failure to achieve a clean sweep in the state.
“Alhamdulillah, even the youths are now backing the struggle for Islam. There are just two seats left, but it’s okay.
“There might be people who ask who are the ones going against the fight for Islam, so the people can point to those two seats,” he said during a sermon earlier today, a partial clip of which was posted on Twitter by user @ZacZakirin13.
It is believed that Nassuruddin was referring to the Galas seat won by Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Mohd Syahbuddin Hashim and the Kota Lama seat secured by Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) Hafidzah Mustakim.
Nassuruddin’s comments come just days after he said that the state government will take a mature approach to strengthening its relationship with the federal government for the well-being of the people.
“Apart from that, we will also continue the legacy of developing with Islam… this policy has been proven to place Islam as the foundation of the administration and prosperity of the state, as well as the welfare of the people,” he said then.
Nassaruddin, who is also Kelantan PAS information chief, said this during his first press conference as the state’s new menteri besar on August 16.
The state elections on August 12 saw PN secure 43 out of the 45 seats available in the Kelantan state legislative assembly. – August 18, 2023
