KUALA LUMPUR ā Newly-minted Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor will be called in to provide a statement after he displayed his marked ballot paper after voting last Saturday.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain confirmed this in a press conference at Bukit Aman police headquarters here today.
The top cop said a date has not been set for Sanusi but he will be called in to give a statement.
āWhen a report is lodged, we investigate. Give the police a chance to investigate and take statements before taking the matter to the Attorney-Generalās Chambers (AGC).ā
Razarudin said the investigating officer is currently looking into the appropriate legislation on the supposed offence, including Section 19 of the Election Offences Act.
āWe do not simply accuse. We will be fair. We will examine all available information.ā
When asked if Sanusi, who is also Jeneri assemblyman, will be charged in court, the IGP said it is up to the AGC.
āBringing charges is the jurisdiction of the AGC.ā
During polling day last Saturday, Sanusi allegedly committed an election offence when he deliberately showed his marked ballot paper to media personnel waiting outside the polling room. ā August 15, 2023
