KUALA LUMPUR – Pakatan Harapan’s Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun has been sworn in as the menteri besar of Negri Sembilan for a second term today at the Istana Besar Seri Menanti in Kuala Pilah.

This dismisses speculation that Negri Sembilan Umno chairman Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias will be his successor.

Aminuddin arrived at the istana at about 2.09pm with his wife, Datin Seri Wan Hasni Wan Yusof.

Donning a black baju melayu and gold-embroidered samping, the Sikamat assemblyman was sworn in before the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir, at about 4pm today.

After taking his oath of office, Aminuddin signed the appointment instruments, indicating his official commencement as menteri besar.

Aminuddin will lead the state government, following the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional coalition’s landslide win in the state with 31 out of 35 seats secured.

He defended the Sikamat seat for the third time with 12,730 votes and a majority of 2,662.

Aminuddin contested against Perikatan Nasional’s Ahmad Raihan Muhammad Hilal, who obtained 10,068 votes, as well as independents Mohammed Hafiz Baharudin (339) and Bujang Abu (83).

He was born on January 2, 1967, in Port Dickson, and went to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tanah Merah before pursuing a degree in business at Institut Teknologi Mara, now known as Universiti Teknologi Mara.

Aminuddin previously worked as an investigating officer for the Anti-Corruption Agency, now the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, from 1991 to 1995 before becoming a production planning head at Golden Hope Furniture Sdn Bhd for a year.

He was also the sales division chief for MCIS Safety Glass (M) Sdn Bhd from 1996 to 2008. – August 14, 2023
