KUALA LUMPUR — Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali believes he has the full backing of the people of Hulu Kelang come polling day tomorrow.

In a gathering of not more than 100 people last night at the party’s main war room in Kampung Klang Gates, Azmin said he was happy with PN’s campaigning work so far.

“The momentum is good, I’m happy because PN’s leaders have focused on core issues such as the cost of living and inflation.

“The manifesto that we launched is comprehensive and realistic. Our challenge now is to strategise the remaining campaigning time to highlight the economic and public interest issues.”

Azmin said that he is confident of defeating his former protégé Juwairiya Zulkifli of Pakatan Harapan to win the Hulu Kelang seat.

He won Hulu Kelang in 1999 before losing it in the 2004 election to Ahmad Bujang of Barisan Nasional.

“The people of Hulu Kelang have known me for a long time, I have been here in Kampung Klang Gate since 1968.

“They had given me the mandate in 1999. I have represented them as the government, opposition and also the menteri besar.

“I believe they want me to continue to serve here to ensure Hulu Kelang and Selangor continue to prosper,” he said.

Meanwhile, Azmin’s opponent, Juwairiya spoke to a crowd of 3,000 people at PH’s Selangor Mega Ceramah in Keramat, Gombak last night.

Albeit giving a short one, the crowd reciprocated her rallies by cheering “long live Kak Ju (sister Ju)” and “Azmin will lose”.

Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said access to the Prime Minister’s Office will be granted to Juwairiya if she secures the state constituency seat in the polls. — August 11, 2023
