KUALA LUMPUR – Caretaker Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has sent a letter of demand to caretaker Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor over the latter’s claims involving an alleged state land scandal.

In a statement, Amirudin claimed that Sanusi had slanderously claimed that the former had given a parcel of state-owned land to a private corporation for free.

In a letter issued earlier today, Amirudin, who is also Gombak MP, called for Sanusi to retract his statement and issue an apology for his purportedly slanderous claims within 48 hours.

In his demand, Amirudin stipulates a retraction, an apology within 48 hours, a guarantee against further repetition of the claims, and a compensation of RM10 million for disseminating false information that poses a threat to his reputation and the Selangor state government.

Amirudin said he would proceed to take legal action if Sanusi failed to comply with the demands.

On August 2, Sanusi alleged during a talk in Jitra, Kedah that Selangor Incorporated had sold a 55% stake of its wholly-owned unit to a business corporation, revealed to be Berjaya Land Bhd.

Yesterday Berjaya Group Founder Tan Sri Vincent Tan and Berjaya Land Bhd issued a statement saying they had demanded for a public apology, and RM200 million in compensation from Sanusi for his alleged defamatory remarks against the company.

Berjaya Land said that they had submitted a letter of demand to Sanusi on August 5, which outlines five specific demands.

In addition to a public apology to be published on platforms determined by legal representatives and RM200 million in compensation, Berjaya Land is also insisting that Sanusi retract all defamatory statements made about Tan and Berjaya Land.

Furthermore, they require an affirmation from Sanusi that he will not repeat or publish such statements in the future, and demand that Sanusi cease and desist from sharing any such statements in any manner.

The letter of demand also includes a warning that failure to comply with these demands by the end of business day tomorrow will result in legal action.

The statement also reveals that Tan and Berjaya Land have filed a police report against Sanusi and several bloggers, including Murray Hunter, Badrul Hisham Shaharin, and Raja Petra Kamarudin, for posting similar statements.

Sanusi allegedly defamed the company when he spoke about the RM700 million river-widening project, known as the Selangor Maritime Gateway SMG, during a Perikatan political tour on August 2. – August 9, 2023
