KUALA LUMPUR – The anti-graft body has postponed taking a statement from caretaker Kedah menteri besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor over the alleged theft of rare earth elements (REE).

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Tan Sri Azam Baki said investigating officers are examining the new and current evidence.

“So, the MACC has postponed taking Sanusi’s statement until everything is completed.”

Last Saturday, police denied reports claiming that Sanusi was called in for questioning.

In a statement, Bukit Aman corporate communications chief Skandaguru Anandan said Sanusi, who is also Perikatan Nasional election director, was neither arrested nor summoned to aid investigations.

Meanwhile, MACC’s Azam said 11 reports were lodged over corruption and misconduct during the election campaign period, reported Bernama.

“Two reports were lodged at the MACC headquarters, while nine were at various MACC state offices. We are going through the reports before taking further action.”

Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Terengganu, and Kelantan are heading into the state polls this Saturday. – August 9, 2023
