KUALA LUMPUR – Pakatan Harapan’s Subang Jaya incumbent Michelle Ng Mei Sze has issued an apology for using an image of Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah as part of her campaign billboard.

She added that the problematic material has been taken by her team, after it was pointed out to her by Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal in a Facebook post.

Ng, who is DAP legal bureau secretary, said the photo was taken on the first day of the Selangor assembly with the intention to portray the event.

“I have no intention of using photos or dragging the Sultan of Selangor into our campaign. Once again we apologise and we will not repeat this mistake.”

Wan Fayhsal had taken her to task, claiming that as an experienced political candidate, Ng should know and abide by campaign regulation.

Previously, the Machang MP himself sparked outrage when his promotional stunt over roti canai backfired with netizens calling him out for racist elements in his post.

“Ambo lebih suko roti canai Melayu berbanding mamak. Jeliro benar! (I like the Malay-made roti canai better than the ones made by the mamak (Indian Muslims). Very delicious).”

Despite the criticism, there were only a handful of netizens who defended Wan Fayhsal, saying he was merely stating his personal taste in roti canai. – August 7, 2023
