KUALA LUMPUR – People’s Progressive Party (myPPP) president Datuk Seri Maglin Dennis D’Cruz said the party would take the necessary steps to end the ongoing disputes with former president Tan Sri M. Kayveas.
Kayveas, on Thursday, lodged a police report against current myPPP members, including D’Cruz, for breaking and entering his namesake building which is also the party office, Wisma Tan Sri Kayveas at Kg Attap, here.
Responding to the incident, D’Cruz said Kayveas had ignored the high court order to vacate the premise as he no longer holds ownership of the building, which is now named Wisma myPPP.
“The high court gave a consent judgment dated January 16, 2019, that the building was an asset of myPPP and ruled the building via shares of Bintang Iradat Sdn Bhd, an investment arm of the party whose director and shareholders at the time were me as the senior vice president, Datuk Mohan Kandasamy as the secretary-general, and Datuk Lau Beng Wei as the treasurer.
“Kayveas’s attempts to appeal the decision were rejected twice by the Court of Appeal.
“It is not his building anymore, but he was still renting out a portion of the building to a travel agency, Zenith Travels.
“He is most welcomed to file a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and we will take whatever steps needed to put a stop to this,” said D’Cruz in a media conference held at Wisma myPPP yesterday.
For context, the high court appointed the director-general of Insolvency (DGI) to administer myPPP’s assets following the party’s deregistration on January 14, 2019.
D’Cruz also shared that myPPP registration was then reinstated on April 11, 2023, via a letter from the Home Ministry and the Registrar of Societies, recognising him as the rightful party president and endorsing the newly elected supreme council members.
“On March 30, 2022, the court ordered him to vacate and surrender to Insolvency with immediate effect.
“The building is owned by the party and bought by the members. We went to the high court to get the ownership of Wisma myPPP to be vested in the party name from the Department of Insolvency.
“We do not need a court order to enter our own building. All party documents are still here (in the building).
“If anything, it was Tan Sri Kayveas and his agents who were trespassing in the building,” D’Cruz added.
As for the building’s tenant, Zenith Travels, D’Cruz said they gave the travel agency three days from Wednesday to vacate and assured no obstruction arose from the incident. – August 7, 2023
