KUALA LUMPUR – Police have denied reports claiming that caretaker Kedah menteri besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor was once again called in for questioning this evening.
In a statement, Bukit Aman corporate communications chief Skandaguru Anandan said Sanusi, who is also Perikatan Nasional election director, was neither arrested nor summoned to aid investigations.
He also ordered for one of the news portals – Astro Awani – that reported on the allegation to issue an apology and retract its report.
“No party from Bukit Aman or the Kedah police either at the contingent or district headquarter level conducted the action stated in the news report.
“The publishing of inauthentic news can cause panic among the community, especially during the ongoing state elections campaign period.”
Earlier, several news sites reported that Sanusi was purportedly called in by police this evening.
This was based on comments by the organiser of a PN event in Padang Serai which Sanusi was expected to attend who said that Sanusi had to skip the event due to “serious security issues”.
Meanwhile, Bersatu’s Padang Serai MP Azman Nasrudin claimed Sanusi was called for police questioning, but that was all he knew.
“We were only told the police called him. Nothing more than that.”
It is understood that Sanusi has a programme with former Umno member Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris (Papagomo) on TikTok tonight.
Sanusi was arrested on July 18 after police were unable to contact him prior to a court hearing.
Previously, the Selangor Council of the Royal Court lodged a police report against Sanusi after a statement by the Kedah PAS leader allegedly insulted the royals.
Sanusi was charged with two counts of uttering seditious remarks that could incite disloyalty towards any ruler. He pleaded not guilty to both charges. – August 5, 2023
