KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor caretaker Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari’s pledge to win the Malaysian Super League and the Malaysia Cup in 2025, while capturing the AFC Cup title in 2027 has stirred mixed feelings among the Selangor football team supporters.

On Monday, Amirudin announced his five-year election pledge ahead of the upcoming state polls, which also included winning the domestic double and the second-tier Asian club competition.

Speaking to Scoop, Azman Khalid who’s from the Selangor Ultras expressed his strong disapproval by saying such initiatives should have been done a long time ago.

“I believe that we are heading backward with our team due to the lack of interest shown by the state government over the years.

“These visions should have been implemented by the state government about 10-15 years ago.”

The 28-year-old further expressed concerns about the state government’s inability to govern sports matters and believes the club is left behind teams like Johor Darul Ta’azim (JDT) and Borneo heavyweights Sabah.

“Selangor has a long way to even reach the levels of JDT and Sabah. I personally believe that the vision set by the MB is unrealistic”.

“I would like to also emphasise that the state government’s vision has never been aligned with the club since to start with and they are merely coming up with these manifestos just to garner votes from the public,” he added.

However, not all fans share Azman’s sentiments. Syazmin Adfzar, a passionate supporter and the administrator of Selangor Sampai Kiamat FB page, wholeheartedly supports the MB’s vision and manifesto.

“The club is on the right track and it has the capabilities to achieve the ambitious goals set forth by the state government.

“The MB has set achievable targets for our club and the club should continue developing more young players for the betterment of the club in being a powerhouse in the game,” he said.

Hakim Annuar 35, who is a part of the “Penyokong Selangor FC” FB group, echoes Syazmin’s sentiment by saying that the club has been investing in a pool of players to accomplish the state government’s vision.

“The club has been spending wisely over the years by bringing in top national players like Khuzaimi Pee and Faisal Halim into the team.

“I firmly applaud the Menteri Besar’s vision, and I can’t wait for Selangor FC to regain its former glory by winning the Malaysian Super League in 2025,” he said.
