Armizan acting minister for Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry: Anwar

PM says Papar MP will handle portfolio temporarily until appointment after polls

KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali has been tasked with temporarily taking on the position of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar said that for the time being, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah, Sarawak Affairs and Special Functions) is filling in the post after the passing of Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub on July 23.

“I have already said that the new (domestic trade and cost of living) minister will be appointed after the state elections.

“In the meantime, (Armizan) has been tasked with looking over and carrying out responsibilities (for the ministry),” Anwar said.

He added that deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of living minister Fuziah Salleh “understands” the reasons behind Armizan’s appointment, and will continue working with the ministry’s secretary-general Datuk Azman Mohd Yusof.

Besides being Papar MP, Armizan is also Gabungan Rakyat Sabah’s (GRS) sole cabinet representative under Anwar’s unity government.

The domestic trade and cost of living ministry was left without a leader following the death of Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, who was also Amanah deputy president, last week. – July 30, 2023
