Heathrow Airport closure: Malaysia Airlines flights to resume operations today

MH4 (KL-Heathrow) and MH1 (Heathrow-KL) will be flying as scheduled today, airline also advises passengers to update contact details

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia Airlines flights to and from the London Heathrow Airport will resume operations today.

In a post on X, the airline said that flights MH4 from Kuala Lumpur to London Heathrow and MH1 from London Heathrow to Kuala Lumpur departing today (March 22) will be operating as scheduled.

Malaysia Airlines, on X, has also advised passengers to update their contact details in the “My Booking” section on its website or mobile app to receive important updates promptly.

The airport was forced to shutdown for a full day on Friday (London time) after a huge fire at a nearby electrical substation resulted in a major power outage.

Over 1,300 flights, including four Malaysia Airlines flights, were affected by the closure, which saw flights being diverted or returning to their point of origin. One Malaysia Airlines flight from Kuala Lumpur was rerouted to land in Amsterdam while another returned to KLIA.

Meanwhile, around midnight last night (Malaysian time), Heathrow Airport said that it is “safely able to restart flights, prioritising repatriation and relocation of aircraft”. However, it discouraged travellers to come to the airport unless the airline they are boarding has advised to do so.

The airport also apologised for the inconvenience and said it hopes full operation can be resumed soon, according to its post on X.

“We hope to run a full operation tomorrow and will provide further information shortly. Our priority remains the safety of our passengers and those working at the airport.” – March 22, 2025
