KUALA LUMPUR — Two senior players, Noor Hasliza Md Ali and Fatin Shafika Mohd Sukri, are making a return to the national women’s hockey team after being selected for the 26-player squad announced by National Team Management Committee chairman Datuk Najmi Razak today.
Najmi hoped those called up will give their best to bring more glory to Malaysia.
“Congratulations to the selected players, and what is important now is that they continue to improve their performance and mental strength to achieve greater success internationally,” he said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, Malaysian Tigress head coach, Nasihin Nubli, said Noor Hasliza and Fatin Shafika were picked following outstanding performances with PDRM Blue Warriors in the 2025 Malaysia Hockey League (MHL), helping the team win a historic treble for the first time.
He said several young players have also been called up in the mission to build a strong team for the upcoming major tournaments this year, including the Women’s Nations Cup in June and the SEA Games in Thailand later this year.
“Meanwhile, a player from the national junior team, Zawiatul Akma Hartomo, who has yet to earn any senior international caps, has also been selected and will join six other young players in the senior squad,” he said in a statement today.
In addition, Nasihin hopes that the players called up to the national squad will adopt a champion mindset and set their sights on defending the gold medal at the 2025 SEA Games.
“Undoubtedly, the main target for the team this year is to retain the SEA Games gold medal, while also putting up their best challenge to achieve the highest possible positions in all the tournaments they participate in.
“Based on the recent friendly matches with South Africa, I am confident these players have the potential to produce positive results in the upcoming matches,” he said. — March 12, 2025
