KUALA LUMPUR – It seems that scammers will stop at nothing to deceive the public—even impersonating His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim.
Johor’s Royal Press Office has raised the alarm over fake social media accounts impersonating the King and misusing images of the Johor royal family without permission.
“There are fake social media accounts impersonating His Majesty and using images of the Johor royal family without permission,” the RPO said in a statement.
The office highlighted a fraudulent account on the social media platform X, which had gained over 50,000 followers while spreading false claims, including misinformation about the creation of a national cryptocurrency.
“The public is advised to be vigilant and not easily influenced by these fake accounts, which are commonly used by scammers for fraudulent purposes on Facebook and other social media platforms,” the statement warned.
The press office also stressed that identity fraud and impersonation are serious offences.
“Stern action will be taken against those involved in accordance with the provisions of the law,” it said. – February 23, 2025
