KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia’s top women’s squash player S. Sivasangari has climbed to a career-best world ranking of No. 7, marking a new milestone in her career.

The 26-year-old Hangzhou Asian Games gold medallist moved ahead of Egypt’s Amina Orfi, who was previously ranked higher than her, in the latest rankings update, continuing her impressive rise on the global squash circuit.

“I am happy to have reached my highest ranking so far; all the hard work has been paying off. I hope to keep climbing the rankings and improving,” Sivasangari shared on her social media accounts.

“Beyond grateful for this journey and for reaching yet another significant moment in my career. Always thankful to my amazing team for their endless support and for pushing me every step of the way.”

Her latest jump in the rankings comes on the back of a stunning victory at the 2025 Cincinnati Gaynor Cup in Ohio last week.

Sivasangari, who was ranked world No. 10 at the time, defeated defending champion and top American Olivia Weaver in the semi-finals before overcoming second seed Amanda Sobhy in the final to claim the title.

According to the latest PSA world rankings, Sivasangari is now ranked No. 7, while Egypt’s Nouran Gohar retains the No. 1 spot, followed by compatriots Nour El Sherbini (No. 2) and Hania El Hammamy (No. 3).

The top five are rounded out by Olivia Weaver (USA) at No. 4 and Tinne Gilis (Belgium) at No. 5. England’s Georgina Kennedy is ranked No. 6, just ahead of Sivasangari.

Amina now sits at No. 8, with Rowan Elaraby (Egypt) and Nele Gilis-Coll (Belgium) completing the top 10.

Malaysia’s Rachel Arnold has also made gains in the rankings, climbing to No. 19, while France’s Melissa Alves enters the top 20. — February 19, 2025
