KUALA LUMPUR — The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) will receive an additional RM15 million, bringing the total allocation for the development of the Harimau Malaya squad to RM30 million, with half of the amount provided by the private sector.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim made this announcement in a statement today, outlining that the funds would be used to strengthen development programmes at all levels, as well as enhance the senior team’s competitiveness in international tournaments.
He added that part of the allocation would also go towards overhauling FAM’s organisational management to ensure national players continue to receive support from expert staff and appointed coaches.
“Efforts will focus on creating more potential players for the Harimau Malaya squad by giving greater exposure to the Under-23 national team, ensuring a steady pipeline of experienced players for the senior team,” Anwar said.

Additionally, Anwar expressed hope that the Johor Regent, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, would continue his support, citing his experience, achievements, and extensive network in the football industry.
“His Royal Highness’s knowledge of football management and his connections with international sports figures and clubs are invaluable assets to help Harimau Malaya and the management team,” he added.
Anwar further emphasised that football is deeply important to Malaysians, including himself, and he remains closely updated on the national squad’s progress.
“Various ongoing efforts by the government and other parties aim to strengthen the Harimau Malaya squad and position them as a football powerhouse in Asia,” he said.
He concluded by urging Malaysians to continue supporting the team and its management in elevating Malaysia’s football standing to be on par with the world’s best. — January 12, 2025
