KUALA LUMPUR — The organisers of the Pinkfish Countdown 2024 concert have pledged full cooperation with authorities to ensure a thorough investigation into the deaths of four attendees on Tuesday.
In a statement released today, Pinkfish Management extended their condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased, who died following the event held at Sunway Lagoon on New Year’s Eve.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident that occurred following Pinkfish Countdown 2024, which led to the loss of four lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones during this difficult time,” the statement read.
The organisers emphasised that the deaths, as confirmed by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), took place outside the concert’s premises.
They reassured the public of the safety measures implemented during the event, highlighting the presence of over 100 police officers, trained security personnel, and K9 units stationed at all entry points.
The tragic incident was brought to light when the University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) reported that four individuals — two men and two women aged between 20 and 40 — had died after attending the concert.
“We are working closely with the relevant authorities to provide the necessary support to those affected and to assist with the investigation,” the organisers stated.
Addressing public concerns about safety, Pinkfish Management stressed their commitment to rigorous security protocols.
“Every precaution was taken to ensure the safety of all attendees, staff, and the surrounding community,” the statement read.
This incident has cast a shadow over the New Year’s celebrations at Sunway Lagoon, a popular entertainment venue. Police are continuing their investigations into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Further updates are expected once investigations are complete, with police not ruling out the possibility of substance abuse. — January 2, 2025
