KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has emphasised the vital role of the media in upholding the spirit of democracy in Malaysia.
Anwar highlighted that the media serves as a crucial platform for delivering constructive criticism, advice, insights, and analysis.
“Today, I had the opportunity to meet with local and international media practitioners to provide updates on the nation’s direction, including government policies, current issues, and the country’s future,” he shared in a social media post today.
“This session is important for offering clarity and information, particularly concerning the performance of the Cabinet, efforts to eradicate hardcore poverty, foreign policy, and the nation’s economic strategy amidst dynamic global changes, regional issues, and Asean’s rise,” he added.
The prime minister also addressed questions about Malaysia’s oil and gas industry, stressing the need for collective efforts to drive the sector forward.
Earlier today, Anwar hosted a special press conference in Subang, attended by approximately 100 journalists from both local and international media outlets.
He expressed hope that such sessions would be beneficial and could be conducted more frequently in the future.
“These engagements aim to raise awareness and provide proper clarification on the government’s policies, current issues, and other matters of public interest,” he said. — December 21, 2024
