KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has proposed that the Education Ministry (MoE) and YTL Communications Sdn Bhd return to the negotiation table to resolve issues related to the 1BestariNet contract.
In a statement, MACC said this was one of the recommendations made to identify and address arising issues from the agreed tender contract.
According to the graft busters, the deputy public prosecutor (DPP) has instructed the commission to submit a full report of the findings, along with recommendations for improvements, to MoE.
“MACC has received instructions from the DPP that no charges will be brought against any party regarding the implementation of the 1BestariNet project under MoE.
“This decision was made based on the findings of MACC’s investigation conducted since last September, which determined there were no criminal elements in the execution of the tender.
“As a follow-up, the investigation was carried out by the MACC’s Governance Investigation Division, focusing on governance issues and financial claims within the contract between YTL Communications Sdn Bhd and MoE,” the statement said.
Yesterday, YTL Communications Sdn Bhd informed Bursa Malaysia that the MACC had cleared it of any misconduct in the investigation of the RM4 billion 1BestariNet project.
“We wish to announce that we have received confirmation from the MACC that it has concluded its investigation and determined that no charges will be brought against YTL Communications,” it said.
On September 4, MACC sources stated that the commission had raided YTL Communications’ office in Kuala Lumpur and a government office as part of its investigation into the 1BestariNet project.
“Following the search, several documents were seized, and the MACC is reviewing them to identify witnesses who will be called to provide statements to assist the investigation.
“The investigation is focused on claims containing false details, involving payments of approximately RM2.7 billion,” the MACC said.
The MACC’s investigation also focused on other criminal elements under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009. – December 19, 2024
