IPOH – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and Digital Perak Corporation Holdings (DPCH) today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to support the implementation of the smart city programme in Ipoh.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the collaboration marks a positive start to empowering the smart city programme, which will benefit Ipoh residents.

“This strategic collaboration aims to strengthen the partnership between MCMC and DPCH in enhancing digital infrastructure, promoting digital education, and providing smart and green community facilities,” he said in his speech during the MoU signing ceremony at the 2025 Perak Economic Outlook event today.

The MoU was exchanged by MCMC chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Mohd Ali Hanafiah Mohd Yunus and DPCH CEO Suhaimi Tahir, witnessed by Fahmi and Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

Fahmi highlighted that the MoU will improve internet coverage in Perak to support the Perak Sejahtera 2030 plan, by providing a communication infrastructure strategy at designated development sites.

He noted that MCMC will provide technical advisory services to DPCH related to digital infrastructure, networks, coverage, cybersecurity, and online fraud prevention.

The MoU will also include exploring cooperation in e-commerce and information and communication technology training at the National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) Perak, to engage local communities in NADI areas, he added.

“Clearly, the initiatives I have mentioned are essential to transforming Ipoh into a city that is not only efficient and innovative but also sustainable.

“The collaboration between MCMC and DPCH is proof that such an approach is the best way to drive this initiative,” he said. – December 19, 2024
