KUALA LUMPUR —A Grab driver went beyond the call of duty when he tracked down a passenger to retrieve a laptop bag left behind in his e-hailing car by an earlier customer.

X user @arfdy12 praised the unnamed driver, adding that he tipped the man RM100 for his honesty and the extra effort put in to confront the passenger who took his belongings and to deliver them back to him.

@arfdy12 said although his laptop wasn’t in the bag, other documents inside were important to him.

He shared that he had booked a Grab ride from Publika in Kuala Lumpur to Petaling Jaya and took out his laptop during the trip to attend an online meeting.

He alighted from the vehicle at his destination with his open laptop, but forgot the bag which he left in the backseat.

He only realised he had left the laptop bag behind after his online meeting concluded.

“I opened the Grab app. Found that the chat (with the driver) was still open. (Relieved) to know that the chat remains open for 2 hours after the trip,” @arfdy12 posted, adding that he asked about his laptop bag and shared his phone number with the driver.

The driver, confirming that the laptop back was not there, replied that he would call the last passenger, whom he had dropped off in Cyberjaya.

“He said he spoke to the Cyberjaya customer. He scolded the customer for taking another person’s bag. He said the customer wanted a tip for returning the bag.

“He said ‘wait awhile’. I’m going from Shah Alam to collect your bag in Cyberjaya and I will send it to you,” said @arfdy12.

Before driving back to Petaling Jaya to deliver the laptop, the diligent driver even video-called him upon retrieving the bag, asking @arfdy12 to check if all documents were intact and whether anything else was missing.

“He was so concerned.

“I gave him a tip. So grateful there are drivers like these. Malaysians are honest and helpful,” said a relieved @arfdy12.

His post prompted another X user, @Reen_Kanaoshi, to share their experience of a kind Grab driver who returned a phone left behind after a ride.
