KUALA LUMPUR — DSAT Group has filed a RM1 billion lawsuit against Kedah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.
The group’s executive chairman, Datuk Seri Azizul Tandek, expressed disappointment over Sanusi’s remarks during a press conference on November 7 at the Sungai Petani Municipal Council (MPSPK) regarding the company’s intent to purchase the Kedah Darul Aman (KDA) football club.
In his remarks, Sanusi, who is also president of the Kedah Football Association (KFA), had allegedly referred to Azizul as a “scammer”.
Azizul confirmed that a notice of demand has been served to Sanusi through the group’s legal representatives, Messrs Gunaseharan & Linda.
“This notice pertains to the statement made by the Honourable Chief Minister of Kedah on November 7, 2024, at MPSPK.
“DSAT, DSAT Group, and MMC are issuing this demand letter to require Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor to issue a public apology, retract his statement, and pay damages amounting to RM1 billion.
“We are granting a 10-day period from the date of receipt of this notice for Sanusi to comply.
“Should he fail, refuse, or neglect to fulfill the demands within the stipulated time frame, DSAT, DSAT Group, and MMC will proceed with legal action and initiate court proceedings immediately without further notification or consultation,” said Azizul in a statement posted on his social media.
Earlier, Sanusi, clarified that his remark about preventing “scammers” from taking over KDA FC were not directed at any specific company or individual but was intended as a general statement.
Notably, before this issue gained momentum, KDA FC owner Tan Sri Daud Bakar had already rejected DSAT Group’s offer to take over the club.
KDA FC is currently facing significant financial challenges, with some players boycotting training sessions and matches due to unpaid salaries, while others have taken the drastic step of leaving the team.
Most recently, their head coach, Nafuzi Zain, tendered his resignation yesterday. – November 25, 2024
