KUALA LUMPUR — The National Sports Council (NSC) will deliberate with the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) on the best way to utilise the RM15 million allocated for football development under Budget 2025, as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

NSC director-general Abdul Rashid Yaakub said ongoing discussions with FAM are crucial to ensuring the funds are used effectively to benefit the country’s football programs, Bernama reported.

“We’ve met with FAM, but further discussions are needed to finalise how the RM15 million allocation will be used,” he told reporters after the 2024 Women in Sports National Seminar.

“It’s not a one-off meeting; we need to keep discussing until we reach the best conclusion on how to govern the funds.”

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh previously emphasised that the funds, designated for the Harimau Malaya, Under-18, and Under-13 squads, cannot be used arbitrarily or for salary payments.

Both the Finance Ministry and the Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) will monitor the spending to ensure it focuses on improving team performance. — October 21, 2024
