Buzz returns as vendors, fans revive Bukit Jalil Stadium for Merdeka Cup

Despite a boycott by Ultras Malaya, over 10,000 fans are expected to flock to the stadium tonight, providing a boost for Harimau Malaya in the Merdeka Cup final against Lebanon

KUALA LUMPUR – Vendors are buzzing with excitement as Bukit Jalil National Stadium comes alive with energy once again.

Fans are pouring in to support the Harimau Malaya squad as they face Lebanon in the Merdeka Cup final tonight.

This lively scene is a relief for vendors around the stadium, especially after the disappointing turnout at last Wednesday’s match against the Philippines, which left many facing losses.

The increased number of stalls around Bukit Jalil adds to the vibrant atmosphere, contributing to the overall excitement.

Despite a boycott by Ultras Malaya, Scoop’s observations reveal that large crowds of fans began arriving as early as 5pm, well ahead of the 9pm kickoff.

According to internal sources, over 10,000 spectators are expected to attend, providing a significant boost for Pau Marti Vicente’s team as they prepare for the match.

For vendors like Mohd Shahin Shah, who sells snacks and scarves, today’s turnout is a welcome change.

He’s seeing a notable increase in sales compared to the previous Wednesday.

“Last time, I had to wait until the end of the game against the Philippines to make any sales. But today, with so many more people here, business is much better,” Shahin told Scoop.

For many fans, the match is an opportunity to enjoy quality time with their families while supporting Harimau Malaya.

Julianna Kahar, a dedicated fan, expressed her delight at the larger crowd.

“I’m a huge fan of the Malaysian team, and my child especially admires Arif Aiman. I believe Malaysia can win 1-0 or 2-0.

“The stadium feels alive today, and that must be motivating for the players,” she said.

Similarly, Ghadafi Amdan, who brought his two children to the stadium for the first time, shared his excitement.

“I wanted to fulfil my children’s dream of seeing Malaysia in action, and this is their first experience at the stadium. Hopefully, after this, they’ll explore more with their friends,” said Ghadafi.
