KUALA LUMPUR – Grab Malaysia has successfully raised over RM1 million in donations to support humanitarian group Mercy Malaysia, marking a significant milestone in their partnership since November 2023.

In a statement, the company said this achievement highlights the collective efforts of Grab, its users, and partners in contributing to vital relief and rehabilitation initiatives led by Mercy Malaysia.

The funds were raised through voluntary donations from Grab users via GrabPay and GrabRewards, with Grab Malaysia matching these contributions.

Additionally, Mastercard joined the initiative, matching 1% of the order value for all GrabFood orders of RM30 and above. A further RM200,000 was pledged by the GrabForGood Fund.

Grab Malaysia managing director Adelene Foo, expressed her gratitude, stating, “As a homegrown brand, we want to continue to engage and uplift communities that are underserved and in need. Our initiative with Mercy Malaysia is an extension of this.”

“Our users have shown immense generosity, and their contributions are making a real difference in the lives of those affected by the floods. We’re proud to leverage our tech innovations to amplify this positive impact, making it more convenient and accessible for Malaysians to contribute to their community.”

The donations will be utilised to fund relief efforts across Malaysia, as well as to support communities affected by conflict.

#BantuanBanjir Flood Relief Fund

Since 2021, Grab Malaysia has partnered with Mercy Malaysia on the #BantuanBanjir campaign, aimed at rehabilitating communities impacted by floods across Malaysia. The campaign has provided immediate aid, including food, clean water, and essential supplies.

The funds have also been used to acquire raw materials and manpower necessary to restore infrastructure, such as homes, schools, and sewerage systems.

During a recent volunteer initiative in Kg Kuala Jengal, Terengganu, Grab’s team, along with driver and delivery partners, assisted in cleaning and rebuilding parts of the home of Puan Sepiah, a resident severely affected by the floods.

Humanitarian aid

In addition to the #BantuanBanjir campaign, Grab Malaysia expanded its collaboration with Mercy Malaysia in 2023 to include humanitarian aid for those impacted by conflict and crisis globally.

The raised funds will support a range of activities, including food and water distribution, mental health support, medical aid, and the establishment of Medical Points.

Apart from providing immediate relief, the initiative aims to contribute to sustainable recovery and resilience in affected communities.

Mercy Malaysia president Ahmad Faizal Mohd Perdaus acknowledged the support, saying, “We are incredibly grateful for the generosity Malaysians have shown and appreciate Grab’s support in our on-going flood aid and humanitarian aid in this critical time of need.

“We look forward to further collaborations with Grab Malaysia – strengthening our emergency response and reach for affected communities.” – August 21, 2024
