Paris 2024: Nur Dhabitah makes 3m springboard final

National diver places eighth in semi-finals to finish in top 12

KUALA LUMPUR – Nur Dhabitah Sabri has qualified for the final of the women’s 3m springboard at the Paris Olympics, continuing her impressive journey on the world stage.

The national diver, who secured her spot at the Games through a wildcard entry, made the top-12 cut in the semi-finals, finishing eighth out of 18 divers with a five-dive total of 286.95 points.

The 25-year-old Malaysian diver kicked off her semi-final performance with a strong start, earning 67.50 points in her first dive – the highest score among her five dives. 

She followed up with scores of 55.50, 46.50, 57.00 and 60.45 at the Paris Aquatics Centre in Saint-Denis.

Leading the semi-final standings was China’s Chen Yiwen, who dominated the event with a total of 360.85 points. 

Close behind was Australia’s Maddison Keeney, securing second place with 334.70 points, while Italy’s Chiara Pellacani rounded out the top three with 324.75 points.

Nur Dhabitah’s advancement to the final marks another milestone in her Olympic career, which has now spanned three consecutive Games. 

She first appeared at the 2016 Rio Olympics, where she and Cheong Jun Hoong finished fifth in the 3m synchronised springboard. Dhabitah also advanced to the final of the 10m platform in Rio, finishing ninth with 338 points.

At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Dhabitah delivered a standout performance in the individual 3m springboard, narrowly missing out on a medal by finishing fourth with a score of 326.15 in the final. – August 8, 2024
