Paris Olympics: Dhabitah dives into 3m springboard semis

Diving star started strong but declined in second to fourth dives before regaining composure in fifth dive to finish 12th with 283.65 pts

PARIS – Malaysian diver Nur Dhabitah Sabri secured a spot in the women’s individual 3m springboard semi-finals at the Paris Olympics yesterday. 

The 25-year-old started brilliantly in the first dive, finishing second with 67.50 points at the Paris Aquatics Centre in Saint-Denis, but her performance declined with scores of 63, 54 and 48 in the second, third and fourth dives respectively. 

However, Dhabitah regained her composure in the fifth dive to bounce back and finish the round in 12th place with 283.65 points. 

Only the top 18 divers qualify for the semifinals scheduled for later today.

China’s Chen Yiwen topped the standings with 356.40 points, followed by Australia’s Maddison Keeny with 337.35 points in second place and Mexico’s Vazquez Montana third (321.74 points). 

The Paris Olympics is Dhabitah’s third Olympic appearance after Tokyo 2020 and Rio 2016. – August 8, 2024
