KUALA LUMPUR – Former Sg Puyu state executive council member Datuk Seri Phee Boon Poh is currently being treated at a private hospital in Penang after suffering a cardiac arrest yesterday.

In saying this, Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow added that the matter was informed by Phee’s daughter, Syn Tze, who is the current Sg Puyu assemblywoman.

“I received a message from Syn Tze informing me that around 11.45pm last night, Boon Poh fell for an unknown reason and was immediately sent to the hospital.

“The doctors are trying to determine the cause of the heart attack. I was also informed that he was conscious this morning,” he told reporters at an event in Seberang Jaya today.

Chow, who is also the Penang DAP chairman, asked party members to give Phee space, stating that now is not the right time to visit him.

He also encouraged members to continue praying for the health of the 72-year-old veteran politician.

Butterworth-based Phee is a three-term state executive councillor who has been lauded for his efforts to bring about the caring society concept to Penang and his outspokenness on issues relating to the environment, such as plastic waste and oil spills. – August 2, 2024
