KUALA LUMPUR – Police will seek an extension of the remand for the 31-year-old male suspect for allegedly kidnapping 6-year-old Albertine Leo at a shopping centre in Iskandar Puteri.

The suspect’s current remand expired today.

Johor police chief M. Kumar said that the extension is necessary to allow further investigations into the local male suspect, who was arrested with the victim at a budget hotel in Batang Kali, Selangor.

“A seven-day extension of remand, from tomorrow until August 5, is requested to allow further investigation of the local man arrested in connection with the child abduction incident in the Eco Galleria area on July 20.”

In a statement today, he advised the public not to speculate as it could interfere with the investigation.

He said any information about the incident can be reported to the Johor Police at 019-2792095 or the operations room at 07-2212999.

On July 23, Albertine, who went missing, was found. She was with the suspect when police found her.

He was brought back to Johor for further investigation into the kidnapping of the child.

Police have arrested five individuals including the suspect for investigations. However, four were released on police bail last Friday, and the investigation is now focused on the male suspect.

The five individuals do not have any familial connection to the victim. – July 29, 2024
