GEORGE TOWN – The ongoing global Microsoft cloud storage outage is not impacting the operations of Malaysia Airlines and Singapore Airlines at Penang International Airport, an airport official confirmed when contacted by Scoop.
However, the operations of three airlines, namely AirAsia, Scoot, and Firefly, have been disrupted by the computing problem.
“There are no flight delays (in PIA) at the moment,” the official said.
State infrastructure committee chairman, Zairil Khir Johari, confirmed to Scoop that three airlines are experiencing operational challenges.
Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) informed him of slight delays during manual check-in processes, reassuring that the situation is currently being managed.
In a statement, the Malaysian Aviation Group affirmed that Malaysia Airlines’ flight schedules remain unaffected, with no cancellations due to service disruptions by their provider.
However, Firefly reported issues with booking and online check-in systems, attributing the problem to ongoing service provider issues. They are actively collaborating to resolve and restore services promptly.
The global outage, stemming from cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike’s update complications, impacted major airlines, media outlets, businesses, and police agencies worldwide.
CNBC reported CrowdStrike’s global rollback efforts, while noting Microsoft’s gradual restoration of cloud services.
NBC News highlighted flight groundings in multiple countries and disruptions to retail and broadcasting sectors, primarily affecting Windows-based PCs.
Meanwhile, a Batik Air spokesperson told Scoop that their operations remained largely unaffected by the outage. – July 19, 2024
