Nur Farah Kartini murder: police find victim’s phone at crime scene

Authorities highlight ongoing efforts to determine cause of death amid challenges posed by decomposition of her chest and face

KUALA LUMPUR – Police have recovered a mobile phone they believe belonged to Nur Farah Kartini Abdullah in a ditch at an oil palm plantation in Kg Sri Kledang, Hulu Selangor, where her body was found on July 15.

It was found by the scuba unit at 12.21pm today and was shown to the suspect, who was in a patrol car, for identification.

Today is the second day the authorities have brought the 26-year-old policeman suspected of killing Nur Farah Kartini to the plantation.

Police are also trying to recover other pieces of evidence that could help in their investigation.

Meanwhile, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said they have yet to determine the cause of death of Nur Farah Kartini, 25, due to the state of decomposition, especially in her chest and face.

He told reporters that the Sg Buloh Hospital Forensic Department pathologist requires laboratory analysis results from several biological samples taken from the remains to ascertain the cause of death.

Hussein also confirmed that a Toyota car belonging to the suspect, who is an acquaintance of the victim, has been seized.

Nur Farah Kartini’s body was found around 6pm on July 15. She had been missing since July 10 after delivering a rental car to a customer. 

Subsequently, a 26-year-old man, also a policeman stationed in Perak, was remanded for seven days until July 22 to assist in the murder investigation. – July 17, 2024
