KUALA LUMPUR – Two suspects allegedly involved in the cyberbullying case against the late social media influencer Rajeswary Appahu are expected to be charged tomorrow.

In a brief press statement, Kuala Lumpur police said both suspects will be hauled up to the Jalan Duta court complex on Tuesday.

On July 8, police arrested a 35-year-old at her home in Rawang, Selangor and obtained a total of five days of remand to assist with investigations.

Three days later, police arrested a 44-year-old lorry driver who had been remanded for four days.

According to Sentul district police chief Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari, the case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.

On July 12, Rajeswary’s mother, R. Pushpa, lodged a police report stating that TikTok users have continued to make disparaging remarks against her daughter despite her death.

Pushpa named several individuals, including controversial preacher Zamri Vinoth and policewoman Sheila Sharon Steven Kumar.

Yesterday, Sukarno also said the identities of three individuals named in Pushpa’s report had been established and the authorities were in the process of recording their statements. – July 15, 2024
