KUALA LUMPUR – Multi-talented entertainer, Chacko Vadaketh, is slated to take the stage in Bangsar next week, offering those who missed out last year another chance to witness his unique performance.

The three nights of his upcoming shows have already sold out within a matter of days, reflecting high demand.

Following the overwhelming success of his four sold-out shows in June 2023, the former lawyer is returning to live music venue BoboKL from July 11 to 13, with his upcoming production entitled “Chacko Vadaketh: Songs and Stories – Back By Popular Demand!”

However, this time around, Chacko is promising an even more refined experience.

“I did the show last year as a celebration of a milestone birthday, sharing my story alongside Malaysia’s history since we were both born in the same year.

“It was a mix of personal stories and national events that shaped my life. Now, I’ve perfected the scripts and added a couple of new songs,” he told Scoop when contacted.

Chacko said audiences can expect a rich tapestry of songs and stories that represent various facets of his life and personality.

“You’ll get songs from musical theatre, a Chinese love song, Malay patriotic songs, and Malayalam music,” he said

The musical aspect of his show will feature Ui Li on piano, Jae Sern on violin, and Marina Zaini on double bass.

The stories range in tone from humorous to poignant, reflecting his personal journey and significant national milestones.

Some of the stories told through his performance include student life at Cambridge, childhood days growing up with his grandparents in Kerala, his years pursuing acting in Los Angeles and last but not least, his experiences as a lawyer during Malaysia’s 1988 judicial crisis.

“These are the scenes that convey significant periods of my life and how they have been impacted by broader national events,” he added.

While his dates in Kuala Lumpur have sold out, tickets are still available for his appearances at the Batu Cafe and Bar during the upcoming Georgetown festival in Penang. The shows there will be held over three nights between July 18 and 20.

Adding a meaningful layer to this run of performances is the special fundraising benefit on July 11, supporting non-governmental organisation Rimau’s initiative called “Hope for Malayan Tigers”.

Rimau is dedicated to saving the Malayan Tigers, a national treasure, which are critically endangered with only 150 left in the wild.

“I’ve been supporting their work, including the efforts of Orang Asli rangers in Hulu Perak and Royal Belum State Park to combat poaching and protect the tigers.”

Chacko emphasised the importance of community involvement in conservation, urging Malaysians to support the cause.

“Malaysians need to take a stand and show they care about our national animal. Even if you can’t attend the benefit performance, you can donate through the Rimau website or help spread awareness. Every bit helps.”

For attendees of the benefit performance on July 11, a special invitation to a three-course pre-show dinner at Opus Bistro, located below BoboKL, is available for RM125 nett. A portion of the proceeds from this dinner will also be donated to Rimau.

Donations to support Rimau’s conservation efforts can be made through their Linktree or directly at rimau.ngo. – July 4, 2024
