Selangor FC demand answers from cops on Faisal Halim’s acid attack

Police have two weeks to provide updates after month-long silence, says club’s lawyer

KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor FC have expressed frustration over the lack of updates from police regarding the investigation into the acid attack on their player, Faisal Halim.

The 26-year-old winger was attacked on May 5 while with his family at a shopping centre in Petaling Jaya.

Faisal suffered fourth-degree burns on several parts of his body, requiring intensive care and multiple surgeries, including a skin transplant using skin imported from Belgium at a hospital in Shah Alam.

He is currently in the first phase of his recovery before starting sports rehabilitation.

Selangor FC, represented by lawyer Mohd Haijan Omar, announced their intention to write to police seeking updates on the investigation.

Haijan emphasised that both the club and Faisal were yet to receive any information since the player was in the ICU over a month ago.

“The Criminal Procedure Code provides for the complainant to be given updates on the progress of the case under Section 107A.

“As this case has been ongoing for a month, we have the right to be informed of developments.

“We will officially write to police to get an update, and they have two weeks to inform us about the progress,” Haijan said during a press conference at the Selangor Football Training Centre today.

Despite the silence, Haijan expressed confidence in the police force’s professionalism and commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice.

“Considering the circumstances and chronology of the incident, involving acid as a weapon, it is clear this is a grave criminal act.

“An investigation should be pursued under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt with a dangerous weapon or Section 307 for attempted murder.

“I believe police are well-versed in determining the appropriate charges,” he added.

On May 19, police released a photofit of a suspect, but no arrests have been made.

Faisal, who joined the Red Giants from Terengganu FC last year, scored 12 goals in 28 appearances across all competitions last season.

Selangor currently rank fourth in the Super League table with six points from three games, having played only two matches after withdrawing from the Charity Shield, resulting in a walkover win and three points for Johor Darul Ta’zim. – June 13, 2024
