SEPANG – The magistrates’ court here has fixed July 25 for case management for the trial of a man’s attempted murder of his wife by shooting her at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
Magistrate Muhammad Bukhori Md Ruslan fixed the date today after the prosecution said they required about a month to complete documents related to the charges against Hafizul Harawi.
Hafizul’s lawyer Nik Azim Azlan confirmed this to the media, adding that today’s proceedings were heard before a magistrate, as the sessions court judge who heard the case initially was in the process of being transferred to another court.
On April 25, Hafizul, 38, was charged before sessions court judge Azrol Abdullah with two counts of attempting to murder his wife and voluntarily causing grievous hurt by a dangerous weapon on her bodyguard.
His charges are under Sections 307 and 326 of the Penal Code.
Section 307 carries a penalty of imprisonment for up to 10 years and if injuries are sustained, the penalty increases to 20 years, along with fines upon conviction, while Section 326 carries a 20-year jail term as well as fines or caning.
Hafizul was denied bail on the day he was charged.
On April 24, the former travel agency manager was also charged with seven counts that include firearms possession in the Kota Bharu sessions court, Kelantan.
His charges were made under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 for possessing a firearm, Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960 for possessing bullets and Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957 for possessing a package of firecrackers without a permit.
Additionally, he also faces three charges under the National Registration Regulations 1990 for possessing three MyKads belonging to other individuals, and one charge under Section 108(3)(f) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for using a fake vehicle registration plate.
Hafizul made headlines in early April when he allegedly fired two shots at KLIA, reportedly targeting his wife over personal issues. Instead, a bullet hit his wife’s bodyguard, Muhammad Nur Hadith Zaini. – June 11, 2024
