KUALA LUMPUR – Support continues to pour in for Selangor FC winger and national footballer Faisal Halim after a targeted sulphuric acid attack left him with severe injuries on May 5.
In a recent show of solidarity, German football club Borussia Dortmund expressed their backing of Faisal, who suffered critical injuries in the attack.
Dortmund highlighted Faisal’s impressive performance.
“(Faisal) scored the goal of the tournament in the recent AFC Asian Cup against South Korea. His 13 goals and nine assists in the league last season propelled Selangor FC to a 2nd place finish and secured a spot in the 2024/25 Asian competition.
“Following the latest news, Faisal was attacked and left in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
“We want to shed light on the violence in football. Stop the violence. We stand with Faisal Halim,” posted the UEFA Champions League finalist on their Facebook page.
Faisal’s tragic incident has garnered widespread attention, with international footballers expressing their sympathy.
Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho and Andre Onana both offered words of encouragement and solidarity for Faisal.
Currently, Faisal is undergoing treatment for fourth-degree burns at a private hospital in Shah Alam.
He is in the phase of reconstructive treatment called skin allograft, which involves the transplantation of a skin patch flown in from Belgium.
The Health Ministry’s MyHealth portal explains that fourth-degree burns extend through the entire thickness of the skin, reaching the muscle and bone layers and often resulting in nerve damage and complete loss of sensation.
The 26-year-old footballer has now undergone his fourth surgery and is reported to be in stable condition. – May 21, 2024
