PUTRAJAYA – Unity government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil has challenged Perikatan Nasional (PN) to find evidence alleging Pakatan Harapan (PH) had abused its power and misused government machinery before and during the recently concluded Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.

This follows Selangor PN chairman Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali’s statement that the coalition is currently collecting facts and evidence to submit an election petition.

“Kumpul lah bukti itu (go ahead, collect the evidence),” Fahmi said briefly during the post-cabinet press conference held at the Communication Ministry today.

Previously, PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the opposition would file an election petition to challenge the result of the by-election if PH candidate Pang Sock Tao won.

Takiyuddin claimed PN had evidence that the government machinery was being abused to induce voters to support Pang.

Pang won the by-election on May 11 with a majority of 3,869 votes, defeating PN’s Khairul Azhari Saut, Parti Rakyat Malaysia’s Hafizah Zainudin, and independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin.

Meanwhile, Fahmi announced that this year’s Merdeka celebration will be held in Putrajaya, while Malaysia Day will take place in Sabah, although the exact location is currently undetermined. – May 21, 2024
