KUALA LUMPUR – All seven people who are in remand are Malaysians, not Singaporeans, as investigations continue into the fatal attack on the Ulu Tiram police station in Johor Bahru.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Tan Sri Razarudin Husain confirmed this to Scoop.

Previously, there were reports that a Singaporean was among the seven placed in police custody.

“All who were remanded are Malaysians. No Singaporean (individual) as reported,” he told Scoop in a brief text message.

The remand order until May 24 against the seven suspects, ages 19 to 62, was issued by magistrate Hidayatul Syuhada Shamsuddin at the Seri Alam district police headquarters.

This will enable investigations to be carried out under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Those remanded include five members of the suspect’s family and two students from local higher education institutions.

Meanwhile, the bodies of constable Ahmad Azza Fahmi Azhar, 22, and constable Muhamad Syafiq Ahmad Said, 24, who were killed in the attack, are expected to be claimed by their relatives today to be buried in their respective hometowns.

The remains of Azza Fahmi will be buried in Kg Poh, Bidor in Perak, while Syafiq will be buried in Kuantan, Pahang.

In the 2.45am incident yesterday, Azza Fahmi and Syafiq died after they were attacked by a man armed with a machete, who then seized two firearms from the policemen.

Another policeman was injured when shot during the incident, and he is in stable condition at the hospital. – May 18, 2024
