KUALA TERENGGANU — Terengganu Football Club have increased their security measures by installing closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at their training centre at the Gong Badak Sports Complex near Kuala Nerus.

This is following the robbery and assault case involving Terengganu FC (TFC) winger Akhyar Rashid on May 2, which resulted in him having to receive four stitches on his head and two on his leg.

Terengganu Football Association president Hishamuddin Abdul Karim the move was taken after further discussions with the police, who are still tracking down the robbery suspect.

“Following the assault case involving Akhyar at the Icon Residence, we found that the suspect(s) had been following his movements.

“The police also have the address of all the TFC players and have asked us to report their movements to prevent any untoward incidents from occurring,” he said at the TFCSB Sponsors Hi-Tea Appreciation Event with Terengganu Menteri Besar in conjunction with the 2024/2025 Season Official Kit launch at Marina Duyong today.

Also present were Terengganu FA deputy president Datuk Marzuki Sulong and TFC chief executive officer Mohd Sabri Abas.

Hishammuddin, who is also the state Youth Development, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisations Committee chairman, said they have also tightened security by carrying out closed-door training sessions since last week.

He, however, admitted that these are just temporary measures put in place until the situation improves and the players’ safety is guaranteed.

Meanwhile, Sabri said they are targeting RM3.8 million in match ticket collections this season compared to last year’s RM3.5 million.

“The RM3.5 million collection last year included the sale of tickets for the FA Cup semi-finals and Malaysia Cup final,” he said. — May 16, 2024
