HULU SELANGOR – Polling centres opened here at 8am today for voting in the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.
There are 18 polling centres with 74 voting streams, and all will remain open until 6pm, except for SJK(C) Bukit Fraser, which will close at 2pm as it caters for only 40 voters.
A total of 39,269 voters are eligible to cast their ballots today.

On Tuesday, 769 police and military personnel and their spouses cast their ballots in early voting, marking a turnout of 97% of all those eligible for early voting.
None of the four candidates in the by-election will be voting as they are not registered voters in the Kuala Kubu Baharu constituency.
However, Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Khairul Azhari Saut is seen as a local boy coming from the Hulu Selangor area, where he is also the Bersatu division’s acting chief. His main rival, Pang Sock Tao from DAP-Pakatan Harapan, is from Ampang, Selangor.
The two other candidates are Hafizah Zainudin from Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM) and independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin.

The seat fell vacant following the death of the incumbent, Lee Kee Hiong of DAP, aged 58 on March 21 due to cancer.
In the state election in August last year, Lee defeated challengers from PN, PRM and Muda with a majority of 4,119 votes to retain the seat for a third consecutive term.
After polling closes today, vote tallying will be done at the Hulu Selangor Multipurpose Hall and Sports Complex here and the official results are expected to be announced at 10pm. – May 11, 2024
