No gag order, Pang’s just busy with final campaign push: Pakatan election director

Ng Sze Han says candidate swamped with Kuala Kubu Baharu election programmes and no point in silencing her as she can answer media well, unlike Perikatan Nasional candidate

KUALA KUBU BAHARU – Amid speculations that the two favourite candidates here were given gag orders not to speak to journalists, Pakatan Harapan election director Ng Sze Han dismissed that Pang Sock Tao was given such orders from the higher-ups.

Instead, Ng said Pang was swamped with her final programmes ahead of tomorrow’s polling day.

“No (gag orders were given). It is because today is the last day (of campaigns) so we have to give a final push to all the not-so-okay areas. The candidate’s schedule is packed.

“Why should we give (Pang) a gag order? Our candidate can answer the media so well.

“It is different from another candidate, who is scared to answer the media,” he told reporters at Kerling here this evening.

Meanwhile, it was reported that Perikatan Nasional (PN) leadership had ordered its candidate Khairul Azhari Saut to keep mum on the last day of the campaigns.

It is also understood that Khairul was not allowed to issue statements until polling day.

He has gained “notoriety” among media here for initially declining to comment on any controversies he was embroiled in – such as disputes about his academic background and rumours of his loan shark debt.

Polling day for the Kuala Kubu Baharu seat is set for tomorrow. It was vacated following the death of assemblywoman Lee Kee Hiong of DAP last month.

Besides Pang and Khairul, Hafizah Zainuddin (Parti Rakyat Malaysia), and Nyau Ke Xin (independent) are also vying for the seat. – May 10, 2024
