RM1 mil flood fund: Muda to finally release audit report this month

Info chief says it will be emailed to over 47,500 donors regardless of donation amount, followed by disclosure to party members

PETALING JAYA – Muda’s audit report of its RM1 million raised to aid the 2021 floods is expected to be disclosed this month after several delays.

Party information chief Leben Siddharth told Scoop the report will be shared via email with more than 47,500 donors, regardless of their donation amount.

“They (donors) will know first. After that, the report will be disclosed to the party members.

“Whether the donation is RM5 or RM10, we have the record. It is an audit report, so we have to do it in stages.

“Hopefully, everything will be done by this month,” he said at the party’s Aidilfitri open house here yesterday.

Leben added that the auditing procedure is different in this case as it is not a standard annual audit but rather programme-based.

“It is project-based and it’s not a company year-end (audit) report, so there are a lot of receipts and payments made as the programme covered six states across the country during the flood in December 2021.

“The (audit) process (for this) is a bit lengthy. We have done our part and are just waiting for the final report now.”

Last March, Muda was struck by members’ resignations over various grouses against the party, including an alleged lack of transparency and disclosure over audit reports on how funds donated for flood relief were spent.

In response, Leben said the party cannot bypass the audit process in response to the criticism levelled against the prolongation of the audit report’s release, and Muda worked by the party constitution.

“We have given a promise, and we want to fulfil that. There is a process for it. Just because some people are attacking us, we can’t bypass the process.

“Whatever we are doing, it has to be in line with the party’s constitution and the legality of how we do it,” he said, adding that most of the donors understand the issue.

However, Muda must proceed per the proper procedure of the audits, and the party coil not react to the criticism they face on social media, he added.

Leben also said Muda has strengthened the party for the long run by launching a new online membership registration platform at its headquarters today.

This time, it requires verification from a proposer from the party and a seconder to complete the registration, with an annual membership fee of RM50.

He said the public will be able to register on this portal soon, but current party members will have priority to sign up to continue with their Muda membership. – May 5, 2024
