PETALING JAYA – Muda is open to talks with Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) newest member Malaysian Indian People’s Party (MIPP), but the decision to join the coalition will be made collectively.

Muda information chief Leben Siddharth told Scoop he is confident that PN leadership will put forth a “positive discussion” since the youth-based party could be a “good player”.

“It’s his (MIPP president P. Punithan’s) prerogative if he wants to come and meet us.

“Anyone can come and talk to us. Anyone can propose (their ideas) to us, but at the end of the day, the decision will be made collectively, not by one person alone,” he said during the party’s Aidilfitri open house here.

Earlier, Punithan told Scoop that he intended to hold talks with Muda after the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election on May 11, in an attempt to persuade it to join PN.

Leben, however, admitted the main hurdle is the divergent political ideologies of PN and Muda.

“We will cross the bridge when they (PN) do that (change their political ideology). Muda is a multiracial party.

“We don’t have race-based (movements) like ‘biro India, biro Cina’ here. We are open (to all) and Muda is a merit-based party. So, they (PN) have to prove to us (they are open to all).”

In March, Muda was “caught by surprise” when its former president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman was named as a participant in PN’s roadshow.

Acting president Amira Aisya Abd Aziz reiterated that Muda had no plans to join any coalition or form a political alliance with others.

Currently, Muda has a political pact with Parti Sosialis Malaysia. – May 4, 2024
