SEPANG – With less than a hundred days left, national sailor Nur Shazrin Mohamad Latif has indicated that she is willing to let go of her dream to compete at the Olympics if she does not receive a clean bill of health over her injured right hand.

The 2022 Asian Games gold medallist said that she would prioritise her health as she still was unable to use her middle finger, ring finger and little finger well after sustaining her second injury following the 2022 Asian Games.

“My ligament nerves are pinched even after injections. It hasn’t recovered after a check by the doctor.

“The first time it was my elbow, then my wrist now it’s affected my three fingers from the middle, so I can’t grip well and they get numb.

“Of course it troubles my right hand and with daily 25 knot-strong winds, it will be a struggle with my hand. I can’t grip well after the third and fourth day,” she said after returning from the Last Chance Regatta in Hyeres, France today.

Shazrin added she would only undergo further treatment at the latest May 17 or 20 as the doctor who is treating her was currently busy with a course.

If she has to sit out the Paris Olympics, she said she would try her best to qualify for the next Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028.

She qualified for the Paris Olympics after she won the gold in the ILCA 6 Handed Dinghy event in China. – April 29, 2024
