Defence Ministry to issue Lumut crash interim report in two weeks: Fahmi

Full report is expected to be out in a month, says communications minister

PUTRAJAYA – The Defence Ministry is committed to promptly release the report of the helicopter collision in Lumut, said Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

He said the accident’s full report will be released in a month’s time, while the interim report will be issued in two weeks.

“The Defence Ministry has given its commitment to (issue) an interim report within two weeks. The full report will be (released) a month from now,” he said in a weekly post-cabinet press conference today.

He also said the ministry will make an announcement on aid for the victims’ next of kin soon.

Yesterday, two navy helicopters collided in the skies over the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) base in Lumut, Perak, before crashing into the ground, killing all 10 crew members onboard.

They include Squadron 502 commanding officer Muhamad Amir Mohamad, T. Sivasutan (Squadron 502 pilot), and Mohd Shahrizan Mohd Termizi (Squadron 502 air quartermaster).

Others killed were Squadron 503 commanding officer Muhammad Firdaus Ramli, Wan Rezaudeen Kamal Zainal Abidin (Squadron 503 air tactical officer), Mohammad Amirulfaris Mohd Marzukhi, and Muhammad Faisol Tamadun (Squadron 503 air quartermaster).

The three women killed in the crash were Joanna Felicia Rohna from the RMN air base, Norfarahimi Saedy (West Armada Supply Depot), and Nor Rahiza Anuar (West Armada Supply Depot).

All victims will be accorded military honours at the 23rd Royal Malay Regiment camp once the post-mortem is completed. – April 24, 2024
