Muslims in Malaysia to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri tomorrow

Keeper of the Rulers' Seal announces official date in accordance with decree of Yang di-Pertuan Agong and consent from rulers

KUALA LUMPUR – Muslims in Malaysia will celebrate Aidilfitri tomorrow.

The announcement was made by the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal, Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad, this evening.

“To fulfil the command of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, after being consented by Their Majesties the rulers, I hereby declare that the date of Aidilfitri for all states of Malaysia has been set for Wednesday, April 10, 2024,” he said.

The announcement of the Eid al-Fitr date was broadcast through local television channels.

As usual, the traditional baju melayu attire worn by Syed Danial during the announcement became a subject of speculation among netizens on social media, with many making their own predictions about the colour.

Earlier this evening, preliminary Syawal moon sightings were carried out at 29 locations nationwide.

These locations included Pontian Kecil, Johor; Al-Khawarizmi Observatory Complex, Kg Balik Batu, Tg Bidara, Melaka; Baitul Hilal Telok Kemang Complex, Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan; Bukit Melawati, Kuala Selangor; Bukit Jugra, Banting, Kuala Langat; Selangor Crescent Observation Centre, Sabak Bernam, Selangor; Pasir Panjang Beach, Mukim Pengkalan Baru, Manjong District, Perak, and Sheikh Tahir Observatory, Aceh Beach, Pulau Pinang.

Other locations included Kg Pulau Sayak, Kuala Muda; Scenic View, Langkawi Island; Alor Star Tower, Alor Star, Kedah; Bukit Besar, Kuala Terengganu; Bukit Geliga, Kemaman; Perhentian Island, Besut; KUSZA Observatory, Mukim Merang, Setiu, Terengganu; Bukit Peraksi, Pasir Puteh; Kg Tembeling Hill, Mukim Manjur, Olak Jeram District, Kuala Krai, and SEDC Building Tower, Tengku Putra Semerak Road, Kota Bharu, Kelantan.

Additionally, it included the Miri Observatory Centre; Teluk Bandung, Kuching; Tg Batu, Bintulu, Sarawak; Al-Biruni Observatory, Tg Dumpil, Putatan, Sabah; Tg Batu Hill, Nenasi; Mount Berincang, Cameron Highlands; Pelindong Hill, Kuantan, Pahang; Level 13, Universiti Malaysia Sabah Tower, Labuan International Campus; Kuala Lumpur Tower, Kuala Lumpur; Putrajaya International Convention Centre, Putrajaya; and Al-Hussain Mosque Observation Tower, Kuala Perlis. – April 9, 2024
