Death toll climbs to three after Gerik-Jeli Highway crash

54-year-old MPV driver succumbs to injuries, bringing total fatalities to three

IPOH – The driver of a Toyota Innova multi-purpose vehicle who sustained severe injuries in an accident that killed a married couple at KM51.3 on the Gerik-Jeli East-West Highway near Gerik yesterday has died.

Gerik district police chief Zulkifli Mahmood, in a statement today, said the 54-year-old victim died at about 11.20pm yesterday at Taiping Hospital.

This brings the number of fatalities in the accident to three, while seven people are still receiving treatment.

In the 12.20pm crash, army veteran Kamizan Kasimon, 42, and his wife Noor Asmah Mat Zainal, 38, were killed, while eight other people were injured.

The Proton Persona car driven by Kamizan had crashed head-on with the Toyota Innova. – April 8, 2024
