KUALA LUMPUR – Maybank users have pulled no punches in lambasting the bank after its online payment services suddenly went down tonight.

Checks by Scoop found that Maybank’s website was currently under maintenance. Most users could not load their Maybank2U app and could only access ATM services.

To make matters worse, some users ended up “trapped” in various shops, as they were not able to pay for their purchases.

One such user who goes by @Aqashapirlo slammed Maybank on X, as he could not leave a Korean barbeque restaurant.

Meanwhile, X user @naziruljoharee shared that he was stuck twice tonight.

“(I) was left stranded at the boutique, and now I’m stranded at the parking boom gate too,” he said.

Another user named Syed Azmeer shared an image depicting a large jam forming inside a mall parking lot after payments at the boom gate did not go through.

“I’m going to ‘balik kampung’ (raya exodus) tomorrow, but I already feel the ‘jam’ today,” he lamented.

“Same, (I am also) in the middle of the ‘balik kampung’ jam rehearsal,” user @amierularlis quipped.

Others joked that the system being down was Maybank’s attempt to prevent consumers from overspending.

“Maybank is down. Are you not letting me spend money?” user @pringleskama asked sarcastically.

“People are shopping and are trying to pay, and you cause problems, Maybank,” user @ainanazraf said, accompanied by a bemused emoji. – April 5, 2024
