Grammy-winning Kitaro to headline Rainforest World Music Festival

Renowned Japanese electronic musician among 20 acts set to enchant audiences in Kuching

KUALA LUMPUR – Grammy-winning artist Kitaro is the headliner for this year’s Rainforest World Music Festival, announced the Sarawak Tourism Board.

The Japanese artist is renowned for his groundbreaking electronic-instrumental music. The Kitaro Live World Tour will enchant audiences at the festival for the first time, promising an ethereal musical journey.

The festival line-up boasts 20 acts, comprising 68 international musicians from 14 countries across six continents, along with 63 Malaysian artists.

“The Rainforest World Music Festival has always been a beacon of cultural celebration, a vibrant tapestry of diverse musical traditions and a champion for the indigenous voice of the world. In this 27th edition, we are taking an important step forward,” said the state tourism board’s chief executive Sharzede Salleh Askor.

Other notable acts include Datuk Zainal Abidin Mohamed from West Malaysia and Sarawak’s own Belle Sisoski, known for using her platform to raise awareness about indigenous rights and environmental conservation.

Other international acts include Alright Mela Meets Santoo (Pakistan/France), Bourbon Lassi (Australia/Malaysia), Imarhan (Algeria/France), Krakatau Ethno (Indonesia), Nini (Taiwan/the United States), Rizal Hadi and Folk (Indonesia), Rhythm Rebels featuring Selonding Bali Aga (Indonesia) and Tribal Tide (Singapore).

Attendees to this year’s festival will also be entertained by other Malaysian acts such as The Borneo Collective (East Malaysia), Adrian G (West Malaysia), Alena Murang (East Malaysia), Nisa Addina (East Malaysia), Salammusik (West Malaysia), The Colour of Sounds Malaysia (West Malaysia), Tuni Sundatang (East Malaysia) and Zarul @OurBodySound (West Malaysia).

Ticket sales will open in mid-April. The coveted three-day pass for adults, priced at RM635, provides access to the entire weekend of festivities.

Alternatively, there is a one-day pass for adults, with early bird pricing at RM235, pre-sale at RM283 and door sale at RM333. Children aged 3-12 can enjoy the event with a one-day pass priced at RM80, while admission is free for children below 3-years-old. – March 22, 2024
