KUALA LUMPUR – Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was discharged from the National Heart Institute (IJN) at 11.30am today.

This was confirmed in a brief statement issued by his office.

Dr Mahathir was admitted to the IJN on January 26 for treatment of infection and for observation.

Last week, it was reported that Dr Mahathir was still receiving treatment at IJN even though medical experts allowed him to temporarily return home during the daytime.

However, he was required to return to IJN to spend his nights there.

On February 13, it was reported that Dr Mahathir would be taking a period of rest following treatment at IJN for an infection.

This came after his admission to IJN on January 26.

In photos captured on February 22, Dr Mahathir – who will turn 99 on July 10 this year – was seen sitting at a table reading a newspaper and perusing documents as he underwent post-infection treatment.

In August last year, Dr Mahathir was similarly admitted to IJN for infection-related treatment. – March 18, 2024
